TGI Network's 1st Annual Empowerment Breakfast
Post date: Feb 17, 2018 6:19:10 AM
On Saturday, March 31, 2018, we will commemorate the Transgender Day of Visibility, an international day of recognition for the strength and resilience of our community, with our First Annual Empowerment Breakfast. We are excited to invite you to join us from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Southside Cultural Center at 393 Broad Street in Providence, where we will honor the work that is being done in our community, enjoy a meal provided by Amos House’s More than a Meal Catering, and present awards to a community member and an ally who have, through their advocacy and ongoing commitment, improved the lives of transgender Rhode Islanders.
This year, our award recipients are Representative Edith Ajello, who has served as a Rhode Island state representative since 1992 and has, during that time, been an outspoken advocate for the transgender community of Rhode Island as well as the driving force behind the groundbreaking legislation in 2001 that added gender identity to our state’s civil rights law; and Samson Hampton, a dedicated community activist who has consistently been a source of support to his community and has stood up for their right to adequate and affirming healthcare access, life-saving, inclusive social services, and affordable resources.
Tickets to this event can be purchased here.
